This delightful island is the better known of the Northern Sporades group, though certainly not over commercialised. It is characterised by Verdant pine forests and pristine sandy beaches, some of which, like Koukouniaries Brach on the south west coast, are amongst the best in Greece.
There is one major settlement, the harbour capital of Skiathos is a picturesque, lively and atmospheric little town of some 4000 inhabitants. There are no notable historic sites on the island, so very much a sun worshiper's choice, though with neighboring Skopelos, Alonisos and the mainland city of Volos, gateway to Pelion all within an easy hydrofoil ride, there is plenty to keep the explorer's amongst you busy.
Situated on Platanias Beach amongst pine-clad hills and just 9km from Skiathos Town the Atrium Hotel is an excellent choice for families.
The Plaza Hotel has an excellent location, set in olive groves and pine trees only 100m from Kanapitsa beach and 5km from Skiathos town to which the hotels offers a free shuttle bus several times a day.
