The Zannos Melathron Hotel sits alongside the entrance to the remains of the medieval Pyrgos Castle, approx. six kms from Fira Town, with a breathtaking view of the whole island and the Caldera. The word 'Melathron' in Greek means 'palatial mansion' and is indeed descriptive of this 19th century mansion, built by Michael Zannos, and the adjoining renaissance-style villa dating from 1750. Both have been lovingly restored and combined to create a small, luxurious hotel of ten suites, styled by Yannis Tseklenis, one of Greece's leading designers.
Of the ten suites, seven with one bedroom and three with two, all have a living room, ensuite bathroom with shower, hairdryer, telephone, satellite TV, CD player, radio, internet access, minibar and safebox. The whole atmosphere is one eclectic mix of modern art and antique furnishings, old-worlde charm combined with modern facilities. The attractive public rooms include a lobby salon, lounge, the 'old dining room', the 'Zannos' a la carte restaurant and 'Terrace' bar-restaurant where a variety of menus to cover the whole day are served.
Ceremonial winetastings, including wine from Zannos' own vineyards, take place in the medieval wine bar whilst Russian caviar and a cigars menu are to be found in the Cigar Lounge. On a lower patio of the 1750 villa is the hotel's attractive pool carved into the stone and facing the sea where drinks, juices and cocktails are served all day long. The perfect place for luxurious relaxation.
