Close to the centre of the exciting old town but in a quiet and tranquil spot, the Alcanea was entirely renovated in 2011 in keeping with its architectural heritage to combine modern comfort with antique elegance. It is tastefully decorated to enhance it’s original features which include beautifully vivid ceramics and lavish wooden carvings. The hotel, with it’s impressive array of balconies, was once the office of Eleftherios Venizelos, a notable prime minister of Greece.
There are eight double bedrooms to choose from, each carefully designed with comfort and luxury in mind. All rooms have modern furnishings, sound proof windows, a refrigerator and a writing desk.
This is a place to experience Cretan hospitality at its best. Sample Shisha flavours in the “secret garden”, a colourful interior courtyard, or sit out front on the terrace and watch the busy townsfolk go by. The hotel has a good selection of tasty traditional Cretan foods for breakfast. Guests can have a meal at the Alcanea Restaurant or choose from the many local tavernas and restaurants. Cocktails and fine wines are served in the afternoon and evening. When the sun slowly goes down on the harbour the many little lights create a magical aura that is unforgettable.
