Best of Crete

Crete is the largest and most southerly of the Greek islands. It is the cradle of Europe's very first civilization, the Minoan. Since that period, its history reveals a succession of invading nations, each having left their influence over the years.

No visit to Crete is complete without seeing Knossos, the Minoan palace site which dates back as far as 2000 B. C. and was excavated by Sir Arthur Evans in 1900 -(distance from Chania approximately 60 kms andfrom Ag. Nikolaos about 100 kms).

Crete is also renownedfor its breathtaking and contrasting scenery - its magnificent coastline, the lush mountains and valleys of the interior, the majestic Samaria Gorge (2-3 hours drive south of Chania) and the gentle Lasithi Plateau with its thousands of windmills set high in the Dikte mountains (approximately 50 kms west of Ag. Nikolaos).
